Tolleson Union High School District transportation staff told the Governing Board the district is expanding and modernizing its fleet to improve safety, reliability and access to programs.
The transportation presentation listed 15 new electric buses with charging stations, eight new 84‑passenger buses, five buses to support students experiencing homelessness, six CTE buses and 12 activity buses. The director reported the district’s bus drivers and substitutes cover about 2,600 regular daily riders across 35 regular education routes, 17 special‑needs routes and 11 McKinney‑Vento routes; the department said drivers logged more than 805,000 miles last year.
District presenters said the electric buses reduce emissions and lower maintenance costs while increasing student access to district activities. A brief demonstration slide showed a charging‑station dashboard used to monitor charging status and driver experience.
Board members did not record a formal vote on acquisition during the transportation segment; the purchases were discussed as part of the capital plan and bond projects described later in the meeting.
No safety incidents or procurement contracts were finalized on the floor during the presentation; staff said the purchases align with the district’s capital improvement plan.
