Council OKs $46,325.54 purchase of police administrative furniture from KI of Wixom

The Wixom City Council approved participation in the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program and authorized the city to purchase administrative office furniture, demolition and installation from KI of Wixom, Michigan, at a total cost of $46,325.54 charged to the facility improvements account.
Chief Lang Meyer told council the purchase covers furniture for multiple administrative offices (chief, lieutenant, a sergeant, administrative secretary) and filing cabinets in the police administration area. He said much of the current furniture dates to the original building more than 30 years ago and is at the end of its useful life. The department budgeted for replacement this year as part of ongoing renovations.
Council members asked about electronic records and the future need for file cabinets. Chief Lang Meyer said the department is scanning older records and that newly created records are already electronic; staff expect to complete scanning as the renovations progress and that the new design includes fewer filing cabinets. Disposal of old furniture was discussed: a council member suggested soliciting bids from used-furniture dealers who sometimes haul away old furniture; staff said they would have a staff member (Denise) check into that option and follow up.
The council approved the purchase by voice vote and authorized the city manager to execute the procurement under the Sourcewell cooperative pricing.
