Commission authorizes posting of notice to request CDBG funds for Brown Street sewer renovation

The Coffeyville City Commission voted to certify an environmental review and authorize posting a notice of intent to request Community Development Block Grant funds for the Brown Street sanitary sewer renovation project.
Amber Dean, director of community development, said the city received a CDBG award for the Brown Street sewer work and completed the required environmental review. "That environmental review came back with no major impacts identified," Dean said, noting only routine mitigations tied to construction procedures and waste disposal.
Under the CDBG process, the city must post a notice of intent to request release of funds for 15 days before submitting documentation to draw down the grant. Dean said the notice will be posted on the city's website and at City Hall and, if no objections arise during the 15-day comment period, the city will submit paperwork to CDBG to access the award.
Commissioner Hendricks moved to approve the environmental review certification and authorize posting the notice; Vice Mayor Banister seconded. The motion passed unanimously among members present.
Commissioners discussed the timing; Dean said the application was submitted earlier in the year but Brown Street has been discussed for over a year within staff and the commission.
With the certification approved, staff will post the notice of intent and proceed with the CDBG drawdown process if no comments block release.
