County officials outline road-repair priorities; residents told to use road barn or magistrates to report issues

Residents at the Sept. 2 Grant County meeting raised questions about how road repairs and repaving requests are prioritized. County officials said roadwork is tracked through a ‘‘living’’ plan and the county road committee coordinates priorities with the road supervisor.
A member of the public, Debbie Angel of Brant County News, asked whether the ambulance tax rate was 10 cents per $100 and how residents should report road problems. An official confirmed the ambulance rate and said constituents can report potholes or foliage issues to the road barn; if staff are out in the field callers can leave a message or contact their magistrate.
County officials said requests for repaving must be routed through the county office and that the county must submit requests for state funding by Oct. 15 for the next year's program. Officials emphasized that submission does not guarantee funding: requests are graded and compete with other counties for limited funds.
Officials discussed why some county roads do not have center lines: many county roads are too narrow to meet the dimensions required for center striping, and striping shoulders is an additional expense. Some state roads were noted as having edge striping or rumble strips installed.
The meeting included an operational note that the road barn front office number is 859-823-4851 for residents to report issues; staff sometimes divert to urgent requests based on proximity and need.
