Eric said the impound housing charge reflects the shelter's daily cost to house animals (he described $15 per day as the housing figure used to calculate future fees). Court members discussed whether to later place the fee schedule into ordinance or resolution to give it a stronger legal footing; the court agreed to approve the schedule change at this meeting and to consider a formal ordinance if needed.
Animal-shelter statistics presented at the meeting showed the facility had 61 dogs at the end of August, a net gain of three dogs for the month. The shelter reported 436 dogs brought in year to date and 430 dogs leaving the building, with 214 adoptions so far this year. The shelter plans adoption incentives for October (gift baskets and month-long drawings).
The court voted to accept the fee-schedule change by roll call. Officials said the impound-housing fee amount will be finalized and placed on the next meeting agenda for formal adoption if additional legal protection is desired.
