Miami Lakes committee schedules inclusive job-skills seminar for Oct. 28; town allocates $500

The Special Needs Advisory Committee of Miami Lakes confirmed an inclusive job interview and skills seminar for Tuesday, Oct. 28, with a 6:30 p.m. start time and a one-hour presentation at Town Hall Chambers.
The workshop will be led by a representative of the DeMoya Foundation, who identified herself as the foundation's training coordinator and said the presentation will "focus on interview preparation" and include an introduction to the foundation's services. The representative said there is no fee for the presentation: "No. There's no fee for our presentation. It's our pleasure."
Committee members said the town reserved the chambers for 6 to 8 p.m. to allow setup and asked staff to prepare a flyer and event request form. Committee members discussed promotion to families of young adults with unique abilities and agreed the session should be described so prospective attendees understand it is geared toward young adults with special needs, although parents may attend. The committee also discussed AV needs and asked the presenter to share a slide deck in advance if the presenter's laptop lacks a compatible connection.
A member of the committee confirmed $500 in funding for the event from the town's training department. The committee requested a flyer and agreed to begin promotion as soon as the flyer is ready.
The committee recorded no formal vote to authorize additional funding during the meeting beyond noting the $500 allocation by the training department and confirming the date, time and logistics.
The seminar is scheduled for Oct. 28, 6:30'7:30 p.m., Town Hall Chambers; the presenter will deliver roughly a one-hour training geared to young adults with unique abilities and an introduction to DeMoya Foundation services.
