Canyons School District opens SALTA gifted-program testing window; applications due Oct. 1

Frances Cook, host of the Canyons School District podcast Connect Canyons, said the application window for SALTA, the district’s gifted-and-talented magnet program, is open for students interested in joining next school year and runs through Oct. 1.
Hallie Kirk, SALTA coordinator for Canyons School District, said SALTA focuses on “cognitive giftedness,” identifying students who score in the top 4 to 5 percent of their peer group on cognitive measures. “These are students who are just recognizing patterns, connecting ideas in unique ways that maybe isn't common for their peer group,” Kirk said.
