Trinidad council appoints John Vasquez to fill council vacancy through 2026 election cycle

Vasquez, who has lived in Trinidad about seven years and said he serves locally with experience on a resource conservation district and a rural fire protection district, told the council he was motivated to apply ‘‘to keep Trinidad a safe, secure and healthy environment.’’ He described prior public service on conservation and fire protection boards and noted his environmental resources degree and prior public‑safety experience.
Andrew Davis, the other applicant, introduced himself and described his background in finance and accounting and his prior participation in local advisory meetings. Both candidates answered council questions and took public comment; no formal public objections were recorded in the meeting transcript.
After brief council discussion, a motion to appoint Vasquez passed. The meeting record shows the vote counted 3 in favor and 1 opposed; the appointed member will be sworn in at the start of the next council meeting and serve through November 2026, at which point the seat will be on the ballot if he seeks election for the remaining two years of the term.
