Buckeye council appoints Douglas Sandstrom as city manager with unanimous vote

City attorney Scott McCoy reviewed the search process and said the council conducted a nationwide search, narrowed candidates and concluded the best candidate was internal: Doug Sandstrom. McCoy praised interim city manager David Roderick for leading the organization through the transition earlier this year.
Mayor Osborne moved to enter into the employment agreement with Sandstrom; the motion was seconded and carried without opposition. After the vote Sandstrom said he was “very, very honored by this opportunity” and expressed enthusiasm for working with the mayor, council and city staff to guide Buckeye through continued growth.
The agreement approved by council falls within the parameters discussed in executive session, according to the city attorney. Council members and staff thanked Roderick for his interim work and congratulated Sandstrom on his appointment. The council did not discuss employment terms in public beyond confirming the agreement had been negotiated and reviewed.
With the unanimous vote, Sandstrom will assume the city manager role under the terms of the approved employment agreement; the council did not identify a public start date in the recorded discussion.
