Summary
The City of Buckeye held a public hearing on Aug. 26 for the proposed annexation of a 2.52-acre parcel at the northwest corner of East Baseline Road and MC‑85, proposed by Wynne Oil Company. Staff said the annexation meets state statutory requirements; no council action was taken at this meeting (first of two hearings).
The City of Buckeye opened a public hearing on Aug. 26 to consider annexing a 2.52-acre parcel owned by Wynne Oil Company at the northwest corner of East Baseline Road and MC‑85.
Planning staff presenter Adam Copeland said the site is inside the city’s downtown activity center in the general plan, currently zoned C‑3 (general commercial) in Maricopa County and proposed to be annexed to a comparable C‑3 regional commercial zoning in the city. Copeland said the parcel meets state annexation requirements including contiguity and dimensional standards and that a blank petition was recorded July 29 as part of the process. “This is the first of two public hearings, so tonight is a public hearing with no action,” Copeland told council.
Copeland said notices, signage and newspaper postings were completed in accordance with state law and that no outstanding issues remained with reviewing departments. The council opened the hearing, received no public speaker requests and closed the hearing. Because this meeting represented the first required public hearing, council took no vote or final action on the parcel.
The annexation will return to council at a later date for final consideration and possible approval, after the required second public hearing and any further staff review.
No formal motion or vote on the annexation was taken at the Aug. 26 special meeting.
