The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 15 authorized the chairman to sign a $2,216,619 contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. to maintain the county’s P25 public‑safety radio system through Oct. 31, 2031.
County staff told the board the agreement covers maintenance and replacement of core system components that keep the county’s radio towers and dispatch capabilities running for fire rescue, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and partner agencies including the City of Fernandina Beach. The county manager introduced the item; additional technical detail was presented by staff during the new‑business discussion.
Commissioner Martin moved to approve the contract and Commissioner Farmer seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with all present commissioners voting in favor; the board did not record a roll‑call breakdown during the meeting.
Supporters said the contract is intended to prevent outages caused by aging equipment and to maintain interoperability for public‑safety responders. The staff presentation said the agreement will replace components as they reach end of service and keep radio towers and dispatch operations functioning.
The board approved the contract during the meeting’s new‑business segment after moving the item from consent to new business. There were no amendments or split votes recorded on the motion.
