Chairwoman Higgins closes her final Transportation Committee meeting, thanks staff

Chairwoman Higgins told the Miami‑Dade County Transportation and Public Works Committee that the meeting was her last session as chairwoman of the committee and offered parting remarks thanking staff and commissioners for their work on county transportation issues.

Higgins said she appreciated staff efforts to fix potholes, improve drainage and increase transit reliability and bus frequency. She said the work had been “fun” and an honor, and that she had learned a great deal from colleagues and staff. Higgins added she was “not going too far away” and warned colleagues to expect phone calls from her in the future.

Higgins said, “This is my last transportation committee meeting. I love you all. Thank you for listening to me when I make sense and tolerating me when I a little moody.” She later added, “I appreciate all you have done to get this county moving and make sure that potholes are fixed and drainage systems are working better, and our transit system is more reliable, and our bus system has better frequency.”

Before adjourning, Higgins asked the committee to “please just say a little prayer for Renee Garcia.” She then declared the meeting adjourned.
