Public commenters raise nursing‑school grievance and grilling restrictions at student housing

Abdullah Alkoda, identifying himself as a Mennonite College of Nursing student, said he had been dismissed from a clinical course and had pursued an appeal process. Alkoda described receiving an academic suspension and dismissal after what he characterized as retaliatory treatment by a clinical instructor and an interim dean. He said he followed the provost’s guidance to file a formal appeal, provided supporting documents and is seeking community advocacy and assistance with his case. Alkoda provided a phone number during his remarks.
Braden Fogerson (spelling confirmed in the meeting) said he lives in Young America housing and raised a complaint about a January notice that he said described a municipal code prohibiting outdoor cooking equipment in buildings with three or more units. He said leasing‑company enforcement of a rule barring charcoal grills excludes many renters from a common activity that single‑family homeowners may take for granted. Fogerson asked the council to consider whether municipal rules could be adjusted so renters can grill safely without raising fire‑safety concerns.
Council members noted the comments and moved to adjourn to executive session to discuss personnel matters; no formal council action on the items raised by public commenters was taken on the record at the meeting.
