Residents and community groups urged the Board to defer airport lease or development approvals tied to the Sky Harbor project until completion of the ongoing Peachtree-DeKalb (PDK) environmental study on air and noise impacts.
Public speakers asked the board not to approve extensions or contracts that would enable more large jets to be based at PDK before the $145 million environmental study is complete. One resident said larger jet basing could significantly increase noise and pollution for thousands of residents within a 3–4 mile radius of the airport and asked commissioners to consider alternative airport uses such as a county convention center.
At the same meeting, procurement staff presented the evaluation for the East Side aviation development RFP at PDK. County staff recommended award to the top-ranked proposer, Sky Harbor. The RFP summary in the record included the county’s estimated 50‑year total revenue and an estimated share to DeKalb County; the recommendation triggered public comment and questions from commissioners about timing relative to the environmental study.
Separately, the commission approved several airport hangar lease changes during the consent agenda (terminations and new standardized T-hangar agreements) without extended debate.
Meeting minutes record the board approving the extension of an existing environmental study contract through June 2026, and commissioners said the results of the air/noise study would inform future approvals for hangar builds or basing of larger jets.
