The Town Council authorized the town manager to execute a renewal of the contract with the Union County Sheriff—s Office after staff summarized the primary changes and administrative process.
Town staff said the agreement continues the town—s practice of funding deputy positions while the sheriff—s office retains operational and supervisory control of deputies assigned to Indian Trail. Staff noted the contract provides for an annual meeting on or before March 1 to confirm requested deputy numbers and projected pricing; the county will provide a final contract price after adoption of the county budget and will prorate costs if a town-assigned deputy position is vacant for more than 60 consecutive days and is not temporarily filled. The town also provides office space to the sheriff—s division (nominal lease of $1 per year) and covers utilities and routine maintenance; repairs over $1,000 require town approval under the presented terms.
Council also approved language clarifying the sheriff—s role in supporting traffic control and event staffing, including use of on- and off-duty deputies for town-sponsored events. The renewed contract will remain in effect until either party provides six months— written notice to terminate.
Ending: Staff said they will finalize written contract documents, provide the executed agreement to the council for the record, and proceed with implementation steps described in the presentation.
