Principal Benjamin Jackson of Forest Lake Elementary addressed the board during the meeting’s inspirational moment, reporting that the school has been designated a 2025 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School and was recognized as a 2025 bronze winner of the state’s “Best Elementary School” award.
Jackson said Forest Lake is a Title I school serving approximately 653 students in the Forest Acres community and that it receives students through the district’s school choice program. He highlighted student leadership opportunities—safety patrol, student council, the school news show, and Beta Club—and said the Beta Club had placed for nationals at the National Beta Regional Leadership Summit in Charlotte; 15 students qualified for nationals in Nashville and one student, Maya Vijay, was selected as a leadership representative.
Jackson also asked the board to consider budget support to send qualifying students to nationals. He closed his remarks by noting the school’s community partnerships and quoting Henry Ford on teamwork.
