The Grand Island Traffic Safety Advisory Board discussed reports of golf carts and similar slow-moving vehicles using Whitehaven Road and advised residents that, under current law, such vehicles are not allowed on a public roadway unless registered and insured as motor vehicles.
A board speaker told meeting attendees that residents had been advised to use the golf course rather than operate carts on Whitehaven Road. The speaker said the local groundskeeper had been asked to instruct residents that carts should stay off the roadway, and that feedback indicated compliance so far.
The board also discussed sight-line problems caused by brush along the county right-of-way and agreed to request that county maintenance personnel clear brush where it intrudes on the road’s sight lines. A board member suggested the county consider installing stop bars at the intersection to improve drivers’ ability to see oncoming traffic; members agreed staff should send a request to the county contact provided to the board.
The board asked the resident who raised the issue to provide any additional written evidence and said staff would follow up by emailing county contacts to request brush clearing and a review of potential stop-bar installation. No enforcement action was taken by the board; the board directed staff to ask the county to consider enforcement and physical measures.
