Commission approves two construction contracts for renovation of old city center and courthouse third floor

Clay County commissioners approved two separate construction contracts for renovation work: one for the public safety/safety center work and one for renovations of the courthouse third floor and the old city center.

County staff said the contracts include design-build compensation items and liquidated damages provisions consistent with recent projects. Staff also said they had worked with general counsel and other reviewers; the safety center and courthouse line items for design-build compensation were described during the meeting and staff said overall project budgets remain under the amounts the commission discussed previously. Staff directed that building permits be sought through the city and noted that municipalities under charter law may not charge standard building permit fees to other public institutions (they may charge inspection costs only).

Commissioners voted to accept the contracts by voice vote. Staff said they would send finalized contract documents for signatures and proceed with permit applications to begin preconstruction work.
