District staff provided a finance and operations update that covered cash balances, pending procurement and the district’s approach to device repair fees.
Cash flow and fund balances The district reported a May 31, 2025 ending cash balance of approximately $30.4 million across funds, with the general fund balance noted at about $24.3 million and federal projects at about $3.9 million. The presenter said the unreserved fund balance was “a little over $25,000,000,” without providing an exact line‑item reconciliation in the meeting.
Custodial procurement timeline Staff said the custodial services solicitation was being finalized and expected to be posted no later than July 1. The solicitation process will include a question period for potential bidders, site visits, an amendment posting for answers to bidder questions, proposal submission and evaluation by a selection committee. The intent-to-award is planned for the Aug. 25 board meeting, after which the protest period would run as required.
Technology fees and device repairs District staff reported that technology-related repair fees and reimbursements are tracked in a technology fund. One presenter said technology recorded about $43,000 of outstanding reimbursement requests for repairs and that finance reported roughly $105,000 in revenue tied to computer repair fees overall (period closing at month end). The district charges a $25 technology fee intended to cover the first damage and provide a maintenance/repair fund; if the fee is not paid, families are responsible for full replacement cost. Staff said they plan to improve tracking to separate fee revenue from repair reimbursements and noted that some device accountability measures differ by school.
Why this matters The cash balances and fund balances provide context for the board’s budget and staffing decisions. The custodial solicitation timeline sets a public procurement schedule; the technology fee discussion clarifies the district’s approach to device repair costs and the limits of current tracking systems.
Ending Staff said they will return with amended tracking reports and that the custodial solicitation will move forward in July with a planned board award in August.
