Valley County commissioners on Oct. 15 approved a $25,005.70 landscaping contract with Andreas Garcia, owner of Otherside LLC, and discussed a broader preventive maintenance program for county facilities.
Scott, the county’s facility director, presented a PowerPoint and a proposal outlining preventive maintenance needs across county properties, including inspections of equipment, buildings, foundations, siding and roofs. Scott said the county currently spends roughly two to three days per week on landscaping work and is aiming to move from a reactive to a proactive maintenance model.
"Once that program is up and running ... we need to get away from the reactive and go more proactive," Scott said, summarizing the rationale for outsourcing some landscaping tasks while integrating work orders into the county’s maintenance system.
