Angola HPC finalizes haunted cemetery tour logistics; tickets selling out for Oct. 24–25 event

The Angola City Historic Preservation Commission finalized logistics on Oct. 15 for a haunted cemetery walking tour set for Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, with on-site registration at Commons Hall (John Street). Staff said the Oct. 24 public session is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.; the Oct. 25 session is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and tickets will be accepted through Oct. 22 (staff’s stated deadline for ticket sales).
Staff reported that several sessions were already sold out and that, at the time of the meeting, 42 tickets had been sold with the majority for the Saturday sessions. The Herald Republican has agreed to run an article about the event and staff and Main Street are handling ticket sales. Staff said radio promotion is planned, noting an upcoming interview (morning radio appearance referenced in the meeting).
Volunteers and docents were assigned: registration will be inside Commons Hall and volunteers should arrive 30 minutes before their shift. Student volunteers from a campus organization (identified as FIST in the meeting) have been recruited as docents; several commission members and community volunteers will staff registration and act as backups for actors if needed. Staff confirmed Pleasant Township granted permission to use the cemetery.
Commissioners discussed weather contingencies; staff said the event will proceed in light rain but staff will cancel if conditions present a safety hazard (thunder or heavy rain). Staff confirmed the city’s insurance covers the event. Staff asked volunteers to deliver lanterns, shepherd’s hooks and other decorations by Oct. 22; donated pumpkins and decorations will be returned after the event.
The commission will review the event’s results in a November meeting to determine whether to repeat or expand the program in 2026.
