Summary
Staff reported on Oct. 15 that the commission applied to Indiana Humanities for a $2,000 matching grant to create QR codes, update brochures and produce accessible audio and marketing materials for a downtown walking tour; the proposal would be matched with $1,000 from the city and $1,000 from Angola Main Street.
At the Oct. 15 meeting, staff told the Angola City Historic Preservation Commission that she submitted an Indiana Humanities matching grant application to fund QR codes for historic buildings, a guided walking tour and updated printed and audio marketing materials.
Staff said she requested $2,000 from Indiana Humanities; the application proposes $1,000 in matching funds from the city and $1,000 from Angola Main Street, for a project total of $4,000. The project would add QR codes on selected buildings, refresh an out-of-date brochure and create narrated audio so people with hearing or vision difficulties can access tour content.
Staff described the proposal as a partner project with Angola Main Street and said she expects to know whether the application is selected by October and will report back at the next commission meeting. Commissioners discussed using the materials for broader outreach to local businesses and realtors. Kelly, who identified herself as a realtor in the meeting, said educating realtors and businesses about the historic district would be useful and recommended sending informational materials to local companies and agents.
Staff also noted plans to include marketing materials and that, if funded, the project could support updated historic preservation brochures and other outreach work the commission is planning.
