A Highway Department representative told the board the county plans to lease rather than buy and estimated a lease price of about $89,000 that would include maintenance and interest. The representative said the typical warranty offered in bid specifications would cover 6 years or 8,000 hours and include major maintenance items except for negligence.
“You'll see what they're offering in the bids,” the highway representative said, noting some variation among vendors and that bid specifications would require vendors to list included items. Commissioners discussed blade size, hours and the expected life-cycle use; staff said current machines average about 1,800 hours per year and the 8,000-hour warranty equates to about 1,300 hours per year over six years.
The board approved the request to publish an ad for bids and set the deadline: bids must be delivered by 10 a.m. on Nov. 19, when the county will open them publicly. Commissioners asked staff to prepare detailed specifications for bidders and to present the bids at the bid-opening meeting.
The action passed by vote of the commission; commissioners asked staff to return the successful bid documents for final approval in a future meeting.
