Four Charlotte County schools named Florida PBIS model schools

Four Charlotte County schools were recognized Oct. 14 as Florida PBIS model schools for their implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the district announced.
The district's director of school support, Jack Hamm, introduced Betsy Lazega from the Florida PBIS model who presented the recognitions. The schools honored were Vineland Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Sally Jones Elementary and L.A. Ainger Middle School. The district noted that these recognitions reflect each school's efforts to create consistent, schoolwide systems that promote academic and social success.
"This recognition reflects each school's commitment to fostering safe, positive, and engaging learning environments through consistent schoolwide systems of support," the district said in remarks recorded at the meeting. Betsy Lazega told the audience she had worked with Charlotte County schools for several years and praised the local leadership and energy for PBIS implementation.
Why it matters
PBIS is a statewide framework that districts use to reduce problem behavior and improve school climate. Schools recognized as PBIS model schools are held up as examples of sustained implementation and are often expected to mentor other schools in the framework.
The board and superintendent praised the schools and the staff involved; banners were presented as part of the recognition.
