The Hibbing City Council approved a multi-item consent agenda and several other routine motions during its Oct. 1 meeting, including payroll and accounts payable, personnel hires, city travel and training, and resolutions on pay structures and firefighter benefits.
The council approved accounts payable dated Sept. 25, 2025, payroll for the period ending Sept. 19, 2025, and several personnel hires and temporary postings. The consent agenda also included: a resolution to join the statewide volunteer firefighter plan administered by the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA); authorization to hire on-call firefighters; approval of 2026–2028 base pay structures; approval of a labor agreement and memoranda of understanding with Teamsters Local 320; authorizations for out-of-state travel to pick up and train on equipment; and several community event and permit approvals.
Most consent items were read aloud by the clerk and passed as a single motion. Councilor Hoffman Sockman moved to approve the consent agenda as read; Councilor Bayless seconded. The council adopted the motion by voice vote.
The council also approved a bid request for a mini TriCaster device for the Hibbing Public Access Television (HPAT) office at a cost of $6,590. The purchase was presented under bids and quotes; the council voted to approve the purchase by voice vote following staff recommendation.
Other consent items included authorization for attendance at bonding tours, approval of a temporary library aide hire, approval of a grant-writing proposal for a Minnesota Department Relief Community Forest grant, assignment of a purchase agreement for property at 400 Fifth West to Cobb Cook Place LLP, and scheduling the next regular and workshop meetings.
