Byram Hills welcomes first ex‑officio student board member; student achievements highlighted

The Byram Hills Board of Education introduced its first ex‑officio student board member, Dylan Gash, at the Oct. 14 meeting. Dylan, identified as the student government vice president and a captain of the football team, said the senior class will rotate representation and that the role is intended to ‘‘share updates about the exciting events and initiatives happening at Byron Mills High School’’ and to strengthen communication between students and the board.
Administrators presented a series of student recognitions. The board heard that 14 students received commendation in the National Merit Scholarship Program, Global Scholars students attended the International Day of the Girl Conference, student works won awards at a school art show, and the district’s Unified Sports program was recognized by Special Olympics New York, including a training visit to MetLife Stadium.
Board members thanked Dylan and the student representatives for taking on the new role and noted plans to feature student highlights regularly in board meetings going forward.
