Caldwell-West narrows Jefferson Elementary principal search; special meeting set for Nov. 3

The Caldwell-West School District’s personnel committee reported progress on the Jefferson Elementary principal search at the Oct. 13 public conference meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Finari told the personnel committee that the search process included staff, parent and fifth-grade student surveys plus in-person and virtual feedback sessions to shape interview questions and leadership preferences. The administration conducted an initial round of 14 interviews; five candidates advanced to a second round, Dr. Finari said.
The board’s personnel report stated that the district is on track to recommend a candidate for appointment at a special board meeting to be held at Jefferson Elementary School on Nov. 3. The personnel committee also discussed a Harrison School nursing opening and continuing education summer program staffing; the committee will return recommendations on staffing at a future meeting.
The personnel committee noted that teacher observation cycles began in October and that evaluation cycles for non-tenured staff and administrators will follow the schedule required by the New Jersey Department of Education.
No formal appointment was made at the Oct. 13 meeting; the board expects to consider a personnel recommendation at the Nov. 3 special meeting.
