A staff member said the Impala was retired from police service around 2019, later used by parks and recreation and the fire department, and had become unserviceable after a crash and subsequent wear. The committee approved declaring the vehicle surplus by voice vote.
On facility maintenance, staff reported receiving three timely bids for replacement of six hanging heaters in the Station 1 apparatus bay; warranties and heater types were comparable. The replacement was budgeted at $36,000 in the capital plan and the successful bid was reported in the transcript as "3,487," which staff characterized as a significant savings. Committee members confirmed the work would replace six hanging heaters and noted one unit was already inoperable. The committee moved, seconded and approved recommending the contract to the full board for final authorization.
Both actions were approved at the committee level and will be forwarded to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
