Mister De Pere, a Bedford County staff member, said his exploration found no national alternative association beyond the known school- and public-library organizations for collection review and that many schools maintain different levels of web-page detail. "There was no other source. American library. That's what I discovered when I was at Liberty," he said, noting that Liberty's library operation was large and that different librarians use different approaches to selection.
De Pere and others discussed a recent review of titles cited in litigation outside Virginia (the transcript referenced a Maryland court case) and said only a small share of those titles appeared across Bedford County libraries. Staff recommended encouraging parents to submit formal book requests from each school's library page to trigger a legitimate review process rather than having central staff act alone.
Committee members noted the district's earlier OCR (accessibility) work led some schools to simplify web pages to meet compliance demands and that availability and request processes are uneven across school sites. De Pere said he would share links and examples of library request pages for committee members to review.
