The Lennox City Council approved change order No. 5 for the Central Basin 4 project, adding a net $41,748 to cover contractor remobilization, traffic control and associated asphalt work after Burlington Northern Santa Fe delayed widening the Elm Street crossing.
City staff told council the additional cost stems mostly from mobilization: the contractor ASCO will need to remobilize its equipment to complete the tie-in once the railroad crossing work is performed. "The net effect here is that we're gonna have to bring ASCO back to mobilize their equipment to tie everything in," staff said. Staff expressed frustration with the railroad's timing, noting the city had notified them of the project years earlier.
Staff reported the Central Basin 4 project remains well under budget overall; the change order covers anticipated miscellaneous items including traffic control and asphalt. Council moved, seconded and approved the change order by roll call. No council member comments opposed the action.
