Finance committee declines Aslan Bio loan-relending plan; company expresses gratitude for local review

The Jefferson County finance committee met in a special session on Sept. 25 to consider a proposal that would have had the county borrow funds and re-lend them to Aslan Bio for energy-efficiency and capital upgrades to its local plant. At the Oct. 14 county-board meeting, County Administrator Michael Lucky reported the committee had voted 5-0 not to move forward with the plan because of variables and uncertainties surrounding the proposal.
Lucky said he received follow-up conversations with Aslan Bio leadership, who "wanted to express their sincere gratitude for even having considered it" and were impressed that a local unit of government took time to understand their operations. He told the board Aslan Bio is still relatively new to the county and that company leaders viewed the engagement as "us extending our hand in a good partnership to even, consider this." Lucky said the company hoped the county would "approach them in the same way, in good faith and good partnership always."
The administrator also used communications time to introduce Ryan Recker, the county’s new communications and marketing coordinator, who began work a week earlier.
Ending: The decision not to proceed with the loan-relending plan resolves that particular county financing option for Aslan Bio for now; county staff and Aslan Bio leadership indicated they will keep lines of communication open.
