Carpinteria’s director of parks, recreation and community services said the city is moving into design procurement for a planned pool renovation and is pursuing grants and fundraising to pay for construction.

"The next steps in the pool renovation project are to finalize and issue the request for proposals for architectural consultant services, anticipated in October," said Janet, the city’s parks director. She said staff expects to begin the consultant selection process and then move into design.

Janet told attendees the city has submitted two state grant applications: one for $500,000 that requires a 50 percent local match, and another for $250,000. Staff are seeking additional funding sources and plan to begin fundraising campaigns once the project cost estimate is developed.

No funding commitments for construction were approved at the event; staff said design, grant outcomes and fundraising will determine the construction timeline.
