During public comment at the Sept. 25 Community Redevelopment Agency meeting, a resident raised concerns about the Tillman House renovation bid specification that lists pine siding and asked if that conflicts with the historic-district requirements.
The resident noted the house appears to have been originally clad in cedar and that pine would be a cheaper but different material. Staff member Brito responded that he did not have the ITB details at hand and offered to review the invitation to bid and follow up with the resident.
Another meeting participant referenced the Secretary of the Interior’s guidelines and said the appropriate practice is to use the material “closest to what is existent” on the building; the speaker also said similar siding choices had arisen during the Bronson‑Mulholland renovations and that, because the wood was to be painted, using pine rather than cedar would not have been relevant in that case.
Staff committed to review the bid documents and to follow up with the resident. No formal action was taken on the item; the matter was recorded as a public comment request for staff follow-up.
