The Manor City Council voted 6-0 to accept a locks sculpture donated by the Manor Arts Council and authorized placement at Manor Art Park, with staff direction on installation, maintenance and to return with options and costs for a commemorative plaque.
Matt Woodard, the city’s public works director, told council the Parks Committee had discussed siting options and that the art could be installed at Manor Art Park or Tamarind Park. Staff said the sculpture currently arrives in several pieces and that city crews can perform the installation and required concrete work using parks funds; staff estimated installation would require manpower and some concrete work but did not provide a firm dollar figure.
Council members asked about maintenance, rusting of locks, trash and potential vandalism. Woodard said the sculpture would be sealed or otherwise enclosed at the top to deter trash and that staff would assess ongoing maintenance needs; if locks corrode, staff suggested removing individual locks to preserve structural integrity. The council motion included direction to staff to handle maintenance planning and to research funding options for a plaque; staff will return with estimated plaque costs and particulars for long-term care.
