The Dade City Commission voted unanimously to award the design‑build contract for a new Building Department and Community & Economic Development facility to Ryman Construction and directed the city manager and city attorney to finalize a design‑build contract for future commission approval.
Staff said the city issued an RFP on April 11 for design and construction of the facility, which will be located at 38052 Pasco Avenue on the site of the former police department and CID building. The design‑build approach was selected to streamline delivery and to allow scalable elements so the facility can be expanded upward if future needs require a second story.
Commission discussion requested that liquidated‑damages language be included in the contract to help ensure construction schedules are met. The commission then moved to approve staff’s recommendation and direct city leadership to formalize the contract. Roll call by the city clerk recorded an aye vote from Commissioner Church, Commissioner Constantino, Commissioner Shive, Mayor Black and Mayor Pro Tem Woodard; the motion carried 5–0.
Staff said after the design and development cost estimates are complete, staff will return to the commission with a final projected budget and the formal contract for approval.
