The Choctaw County Commission voted Oct. 7 to add Steel Circle, a short circular road off Deedsville Road near Pine Grove Church in Pine Grove, to the county road maintenance schedule and to the county—s 911 sign list. The county engineer said the addition would cover the first roughly 150 feet of the road.
The county engineer said a resident, Teresa Harris, had requested a work order. He told commissioners the lane receives mail delivery and public utilities, and that four occupied residences use the road (he noted one residence might be vacant). He recommended adding only the first section to regular maintenance, estimating the distance to the first driveway at about 130—60 to 150 feet and describing only minor repair needs, including one bad washout.
Commission discussion clarified the road—s status as a public road because mail service and utilities serve the properties. The chair moved to place the road on the maintenance list; the motion was amended to include adding Steel Circle to the county—s 911 sign list. The amended motion passed on a voice vote.
The engineer said the road may have been maintained periodically under a prior district system but that records did not list —Steel Circle— explicitly. The commission did not set a schedule for work; the engineer said the county foreman believed the work would be minor if the road is added to the maintenance list.
