Residents urge better representation, raise allegations against trustee during Teaneck BOE reorganization meeting

Multiple residents used the Jan. 7 Teaneck Board of Education reorganization meeting’s public-comment period to congratulate newly seated trustees and press the board on representation, transparency and conduct.

At least one remote commenter, identified in the transcript as Shanaz, urged trustees to better reflect the district’s student demographics and called for action regarding Trustee James Wolf. Shanaz said that documents filed in Rockland County alleged wrongdoing by Wolf and that several residents had requested his resignation. The transcript shows that the claim was made by a public commenter; the board did not act on the allegation during the meeting and did not present corroborating court documents in the public record at that time.

“I ask the board that although majority of the board does not reflect the student population, that you take the time to understand the families of Teaneck Public Schools and understand their challenges,” Shanaz said (transcript). Shanaz added that news reports and a special-investigation unit had been cited by callers; those points were asserted by the commenter and not established on the meeting record.
