During the Planning Commission's public comment period, resident Dan Beck told commissioners he and his wife moved to downtown Carlsbad in 2022 and asked staff for updates on two neighborhood issues.
Beck said traffic had increased at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Madison Street since a new Market on Madison opened, and he asked that the city consider installing a stop sign, a roundabout or a traffic signal and provide feedback to him at an upcoming HOA meeting. He asked commissioners for information on whether the intersection had been or would be reviewed for a change.
Beck also told commissioners that late-night vehicle noise on Grand Avenue between Roosevelt and Jefferson was keeping residents awake, with racing cars at "3 or 4 a.m." He said condominium owners had repeatedly complained to the city and that, in his view, downtown enforcement of the noise ordinance had been relaxed to avoid economic impacts on merchants. He asked the city to clarify enforcement policy now that more residential units are occupied downtown.
No action was taken during the meeting; the item was a public comment request for staff attention.
