City to roll out new trash carts by district; 2026 city‑county operating budget approved

She said pickup days for residents will remain unchanged and that if a household owns two carts only one will be replaced by the city provider.
"If you have one trash cart, that will be replaced during your pickup day," Warkas said, and she noted the city’s new contractor will distribute door hangers and FAQs when the rollout is complete. She advised residents to contact the mayor’s neighborhood office or the Department of Public Works FAQ page for details.
Warkas also said the newly approved 2026 City‑County operating budget (approved Oct. 6) totals approximately $1.7 billion and funds public safety, economic development, housing and quality‑of‑life initiatives. Highlights cited at the meeting included continued funding for the city’s gun‑violence reduction efforts, full support for Indianapolis Police Department staffing targets and planned park enhancements through 2027.
