Indy transit updates: Saturday frequency improvements, fare policy changes and rider outreach

Caleb, ridership experience and outreach manager at Indigo, told the meeting that the agency recently improved Saturday service frequency for Route 26 (now every 30 minutes on Saturdays) and added an early Saturday trip on Route 8 to the airport.
He said Indigo is phasing some paper fare products out and moving customers toward MyKey electronic fare media. "They are taking away the 31 day pass and the 10 trip pass, but you can basically get the same benefits if you use MyKey," Caleb said, describing cash purchase options at the transit center and vending machines at rail platform stations.
Indigo staff offered printed fare information in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole, said Caleb, and will hold open houses (second Thursdays and second Saturdays monthly through February) with interpretation available through November. He invited neighborhood groups to pick up flyers and encourage riders to use the new fare media; he also said Indigo staff will continue bus outreach and rider education.
Caleb said special programs continue: Indigo wrapped an eighth season of its Food in Transit program (fresh produce distribution on buses with local partners) and is piloting a long‑term plan to expand assistance to riders, with a tentative date of December 2 for a follow‑up event.
Neighborhood leaders asked about Indigo participating in local homelessness and holiday outreach; Caleb said Indigo had partnered previously and offered to coordinate merchandise or giveaway items for the Hope Team’s annual Hope for Christmas event.
