Staff recommends no action to rename San Antonio International Airport for Gregg Popovich; committee concurs

A council consideration request to rename the San Antonio International Airport in honor of Coach Gregg Popovich was not recommended for action by staff and the Governance Committee approved the staff recommendation.

Staff noted the airport completed a recent rebranding effort that cost about $1.5 million and said there is no money set aside for a renaming. For these reasons staff recommended no further action. The committee approved the staff recommendation by voice vote, effectively ending consideration of a name change at this time.

No formal renaming ordinance or further study was approved; the airport will retain its current name and brand.
