Nicholas Altsak, director of communications for Waukegan Public Schools, said the district will host a "Know Your Rights" presentation on Monday, Sept. 8 that will address encounters with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, how to be an ally and steps for creating a safety plan. The presentation will be led by the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic and broadcast live in English and Spanish on the district's YouTube channel beginning at 6 p.m.
The presentation is presented as part of the district's effort "to ensure schools remain safe, welcoming, and supportive for all students and families," Altsak said. The district provided advance notice so families can plan to view the bilingual broadcast and prepare questions for the clinic presenters.
The district did not specify a room location for in-person attendance; the announcement emphasized the live YouTube broadcast. For more information, the district listed the family and community engagement office email: face@wps60.org.
