Health Department to roll out OnBase invoicing, SmartGov permitting and streamlined activity reporting

County health department staff told the McHenry County Board of Health they are implementing multiple administrative and permitting system upgrades intended to speed processing and improve record-keeping.
Staff said the department is introducing an electronic invoicing workflow using OnBase to process, store and sign off on invoices. IT and fiscal staff will test the process in the coming weeks before rolling it out department-wide.
In environmental health, staff reported that SmartGov has launched for septic and well permits and construction impact reviews as part of a joint project with the Department of Planning and Development. Staff acknowledged “growing pains” as customers and staff adjust to the online permit submission and review workflow.
Separately, staff described work to streamline the department’s activity reporting system, which previously collected a very large volume of data and made extraction difficult. The department is working with IT to identify mobile or field apps to allow near-real-time reporting by field staff.
Staff also provided a recycling-event summary for the board’s information. No board action was required; staff asked the board for input and indicated they will continue internal testing and phased rollouts.
