Mayor Barbara Bender told the council and attendees on June 9 that the city has increased police presence and patrols at Briscoe Park following two separate shooting incidents. City staff and the mayor said detectives are actively pursuing leads and the city is enhancing lighting and adding updated surveillance technology to deter crime and assist investigations.
At the same meeting the council issued a proclamation recognizing Antonio Bridal and CJ Pitt for their actions on June 1 at Briscoe Park. The proclamation recounted that the two men ran toward the location of gunfire, rendered direct pressure to control bleeding, and remained with the injured person until emergency medical services arrived. The proclamation notes that Bridal is a retired Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and that Pitt is a retired U.S. Army medic.
Mayor Bender framed the response as a combination of immediate public-safety steps by the police department and community cooperation, urging residents with information to contact the Snellville Police Department tip line at (770) 985-3555. No formal council vote was required for the ceremonial proclamation; the mayor read the proclamation into the record.
Council members also spoke in support of victims and first responders during council reports and community remarks.
