Franklin County Administrator Danzel told the board April 13 he had directed department heads to check Narcan (naloxone) supplies in county offices and had ordered anti‑choking devices for each courthouse floor.
"Checking our Narcan in every office and making sure that it's not expired," Danzel said during his administrator’s update, adding that the county should be proactive in ensuring emergency supplies are current. He described ordering a device that "acts as a reverse vacuum" and said, "I had the, department heads order 1 for each floor of the courthouse." Danzel said the devices cost about $300 in total for the courthouse and that purchase would be covered with grant funding rather than the current expense fund.
Commissioners discussed placement and public access. One commissioner suggested placing devices near family‑friendly or breastfeeding rooms so they would be known and available to the public and staff. Danzel said he would coordinate with facilities staff to identify locations and communications so employees and visitors know where the devices are kept.
Separately, the board approved closing the spiral marble staircase to reduce falls and liability; administrator and risk manager briefed the board on liability and waiver considerations.
Ending: Staff will identify locations for the anti‑choking devices, confirm Narcan supply protocols and report back on placement and training as needed.
