Roscoe police: three officers in drone training; village expects five certified pilots

Roscoe — A Roscoe public-safety official reported on Nov. 19 that three additional officers are completing online drone training and that, after testing, the village expects to have five certified drone pilots available.
A deputy chief said the training is online and that officers must complete an FAA test at a facility. The department’s objective is to have at least one certified drone pilot available on each shift to avoid calling officers in on overtime when UAV operations are needed.
"...we currently have 3 additional officers, taking the training. And once that's complete, they'll have to go into suburbs to take the test, do the FAA, and then we'll have, 5 certified drone pilots," the deputy chief said.
Staff said they are working through scheduling and overtime considerations and set a target date in December for having the training completed by the new officers.
Ending: The board received the update and did not take formal action; staff will continue to work through scheduling and certification logistics.
