The board authorized staff to purchase a used vehicle and outfit it as a chief officer vehicle for an amount not to exceed $75,000. Staff said the purchase would allow the 2010 Ford F-150 currently assigned to the assistant chief (Utility 8205) to be moved into reserve status and reduce daily mileage on that older vehicle.
Staff reported the current assistant chief vehicle has just over 155,000 miles. The recommended replacement is a used 2022 Chevrolet SUV located in another jurisdiction; staff said it already has many upfitting features in place and will require only minor reprogramming, radio installation, graphics, and some lighting changes to meet California requirements. Staff noted some lights would need replacing rather than reprogramming because of hardware limitations; staff also said they will confirm the vehicle is California-legal before completing the purchase.
The purchase was included in the fiscal-year 2025–26 budget planning and fits within the district's capital improvement plan, staff said. The board moved, seconded, and approved the authorization; the clerk recorded yes votes by the attending directors with one absence.
Staff will proceed with purchase and outfitting work and return any necessary policy or budget itemization to the board as required by procurement rules.
