Marshmallow’s Hope presents free youth counseling and new intensive outpatient program to Roscoe board

Representatives of Marshmallow’s Hope introduced their nonprofit and described services they say are available to local families, including free youth counseling and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that the group said is the only IOP in the region.
“My name is Laura Kane, and I am the founder and CEO,” Laura Kane said, identifying the organization. Kane and other representatives described mentorship programs that pick up youth for activities such as meals, bowling and disc golf. “We actually offer completely free counseling services for youth as well as, we are the only ones in the region who have now who now have opened an intensive outpatient program in our community,” Kane said.
Holly Humes, introduced as a youth mentor, told the board she lost her 14-year-old son to suicide in February 2018 and that experience informed the organization’s mission. “What I've learned from that is that 1 in 5 of us actually live with a mental illness, and a lot of our youth are actually at risk currently,” Humes said.
The group said services are family-focused, free of charge, and include peer support and mentorship. The organization asked the board and residents to spread awareness and announced an annual disc-golf fundraiser held in the village; they left printed flyers with the clerk.
Board members thanked the presenters and asked for several copies of printed materials to distribute to attendees. No board action, funding request, or formal referral was recorded on the meeting agenda for Marshmallow’s Hope.
