Roscoe swears in new police officer, administers oaths to newly elected trustees and confirms several appointments

The Village of Roscoe administered multiple oaths of office during its May 6 meeting, swearing in a new police officer and several elected and appointed officials.

Connor Jordan was formally sworn in as a police officer for the Roscoe Police Department. Chief Holly introduced Jordan, saying he graduated from the police academy on April 24 and is currently in the field training officer (FTO) program for approximately three months. During the oath Jordan said he would “faithfully discharge my duties as police officer of the police department of the Village of Roscoe, Winnebago County, Illinois.”

The board also administered oaths to newly elected trustees (several trustees were sworn in during the reconvened session) and confirmed appointments to advisory boards. The board voted to confirm Theresa Spritla to fill an unexpired term on the Zoning Board of Appeals, appointed Daniel Spinazzola to the Zoning Board of Appeals, and appointed Rich Butera as chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals; motions to approve those confirmations were moved, seconded and approved.

Separately, the board approved the confirmation of Alan Arba to the police pension board for a full two‑year term and then administered the oath for that position. Arba repeated the oath and affirmed he would “faithfully discharge my duties as a member of the police pension board for the Village of Roscoe, Winnebago County, Illinois.”

Why it matters: sworn officers and board members assume legal duties and responsibilities that affect village governance, police operations and local land‑use decisions.

Procedure and context: the swearing in of the officer and trustees occurred after a brief recess; the confirmations of appointments were taken as a grouped set of agenda items and were approved by voice vote prior to administration of the oaths.
