At its Dec. 17, 2024 committee meeting, village staff told trustees that North Park Public Water District has offered to paint the village's logo on District Tower No. 3 at 6008 Broad Street and would charge the village only for the logo portion of the painting, estimated at $12,000. Trustees did not approve placement of a logo at the meeting and asked staff to return with more information.
The staff presentation said the district plans routine refurbishments and repainting of that tower in the spring; staff told trustees the district does not expect to begin painting the tower earlier than April. The village has a separate, planned project to create a new official village logo; staff said the design process would begin in February and could take a few months. Trustees said they preferred to have a final logo and to view the tower location and schedule before committing funds.
Village staff said the district has passed a board resolution approving the repainting and the offer to include a community logo; staff characterized the village's financial obligation as covering only the cost to paint the logo, not the full tower refurbishment. Trustees asked staff to confirm the district's repaint schedule for this and the other towers and to return to the board with that timing and with the new village logo options.
Multiple trustees said they supported participating if the village has an agreed logo and if the location and visibility are appropriate; others said they wanted public input on the logo design before committing the $12,000. Staff said they would follow up with the district and report back at the next meeting (the board discussed scheduling the item for the Jan. 21 meeting). Troy Saunders was identified as the staff contact who will be asked to confirm the district repaint schedule.
Next steps: staff will pursue the village logo design work in February, check North Park Public Water District's repainting schedule for Tower No. 3 and the other village-area towers, and bring a recommendation back to trustees for formal action.
